Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the SU 631-EZ-A and SU 631-XL-A assemblies?
A: The SU 631-XL-A is an upgraded version with reinforced bearing seals for wet environments. The SU 631-EZ-A is standard-duty. Both use the same 5-inch wheel and support 3500 pounds per wheel. Use the SU 631-XL-A in freezers, wash-down areas, or high-humidity docks. The SU 631-XL-A costs 15 percent more but lasts 50 percent longer in harsh conditions.

Q: Is the SU 631-XL-A a direct bolt-on replacement for the SU 631-EZ-A?
A: Yes. The SU 631-XL-A bolts directly onto the same axle shaft as the SU 631-EZ-A. Mounting holes are identical, and the bearing preload procedure is the same. You do not need to modify the truck or replace any other components. Installation time is 10 minutes per wheel.

Q: How do I install the SU 631-XL-A assembly?
A: Remove the cotter pin and retaining nut. Slide the old assembly off the axle. Clean the shaft with a dry cloth. Slide the SU 631-XL-A onto the shaft, hand-tighten the nut, then turn an additional 1/8 turn. Install a new cotter pin and bend both legs flat. Grease through the zerk fitting until fresh grease appears at the seal.

Q: What is the load capacity and operating environment for the SU 631-XL-A?
A: The SU 631-XL-A supports 3500 pounds per wheel on tandem configurations and 2000 pounds on single wheels. It is rated for continuous operation in freezer environments down to -10 degrees Fahrenheit and wet environments up to 95 percent humidity. Do not use above 140 degrees Fahrenheit or in water immersion.

Q: What maintenance schedule should I follow for the SU 631-XL-A?
A: Grease every 30 operating hours or biweekly in wet environments. In standard warehouse use, grease every 40 hours. Inspect seals monthly for salt or water intrusion. The SU 631-XL-A tire lasts 24 to 30 months in harsh conditions. If grease becomes pink or milky, the seals have failed and the entire assembly must be replaced.
